Eating Up All The Chex Mix!

Yum, Yum Chex Mix!

I think we are on a new kick in our house with making Chex Mixes. I'd like to thank the person that suggested to everyone to try the Muddy Buddies recipe on one of the Friday Feast meme when asked what her favorite snack was! I am easily persuaded to try something that looks great and is super easy to make. Ever since I made it, which was devoured WITHIN 24 hours, mostly by my children, we have not been able to stop making them and eating them.

This weeks recipe that I attempted was the Chex Mix School fuel which was also really great (but the Muddy Buddies remain my favorite). Since this is made with mostly cereal, I don't feel guilty about giving it to my kids for an an occasional snack. Anyway, the last step in the recipe calls for you to drizzle chocolate over the top of the cereal after it cools. I have never quite figured out how to get chocolate to the consistency of "drizzle." If you know how please drop me a line, I would be ever so grateful! The recipe was a success and I will be making it again (as soon as I try all of the other Chex recipes).

I'm posting the recipes for the two mixes mentioned, in case you would like to join me in the Chex Mix quest for snacking satisfaction!

Chex Mix School Fuel

3/4 cup packed brown sugar
6tablespoons butter or margarine
3tablespoons light corn syrup
1/4 teaspoon baking soda
4cups Corn Chex cereal (I used Wheat Chex here)
4cups Rice Chex cereal
1/4cup semisweet chocolate chips

Cover cookie sheet with waxed paper. In Dutch oven, cook brown sugar, butter and corn syrup over low heat, stirring frequently, until melted. Stir in baking soda until dissolved. Stir in cereals. Cook over medium-high heat 3 to 5 minutes, stirring frequently, until cereal is evenly coated. Spread on cookie sheet to cool, about 10 minutes. Break into bite-size pieces. In 1-quart saucepan, melt chocolate chips over low heat, stirring frequently. Drizzle chocolate over snack. Refrigerate about 30 minutes or until chocolate is set. Store in airtight container.

Chex Mix Muddy Buddies
aka "puppy chow

9cups Chex cereal (any variety)
1cup semisweet chocolate chips
1/2cup peanut butter
1/4cup butter or margarine
1teaspoon vanilla
1 1/2cups powdered sugar

Into large bowl, measure cereal; set aside. In 1-quart saucepan, heat chocolate chips, peanut butter and butter over low heat, stirring frequently, until melted. Remove from heat; stir in vanilla. Pour mixture over cereal, stirring until evenly coated. Pour into 2-gallon resealable food-storage plastic bag. Add powdered sugar. Seal bag; shake until well coated. Spread on waxed paper to cool. Store in airtight container in refrigerator.

Your site is so dangerous. Whenever I come to it, I always leave drooling all over my computer!

My husband LOVES "puppy chow"/"muddy buddies." It was, for a long time, one of the few things that he "cooked."

Yummy!! Try using a double boiler for the drizzle and add a bit of shortening to the mix - it will thin it just enough!

Also, added you back to my bloggy love list! Thanks.

Oh! We love Chex-Mix here too. But what we REALLY love is the original Crispix Mix. I think I need to go make some now that I am thinking about it! :)

My mother-in-law makes these every year for Christmas and we LOVE them! I can't get them as yummy as she does but I'll keep enjoying the attempts!
